I originally wrote this piece as a total asskiss to Carson Daly after watching the first couple weeks of his NBC show. I loved the guy. He was witty, he was charismatic. He made the show fun. Now he reeks of cheese and is more homogenized than cheddar.

Anyway I tweaked it since Carson has since then pissed me off with his watered down show. But I still suck up majorly to Matthew Perry and Conan O'Brien cause they're still gods in my eyes.

p.s. My recent additions are in my usual navy blue.

What happens when you take one part VJ, one part teen idol, one part gen-Xer and add a brand new late night 'anything goes' talk show?

You get the latest and possibly the most promising SA (smart ass) to grace television since 'Chandler Bing' blew into our lives in 1994. [Well actually you get a complete crapfest with a guy who had potential to be great but now he blows more chunks than a sorority girl at a frat party.]

For the past nine years, 'Chandler' and Late Night's Conan O'Brien have topped the ranks of the Kings of Quips, solidifying their positions as the GREATEST Smart Asses on television. These two men have changed the face of satire and sarcasm, taking them to heights never before seen on television. Now Carson Daly seems (or seemed) well equipped to join their ranks with his too hip to quit wit and snappy comebacks.

Once upon a time ... well a year ago actually ... images of screaming tweens and look-alike boy bands congesting Times Square, would flash through my mind, causing a shiver of disgust at the name Carson Daly. Now the name invokes images of amazingly flirtatious banter between him and the lovely Alicia Keys. Or at least memories of Hip Hop thug ... uh mogul Suge Knight smoking a cigar and telling the previously unknown story of a certain famous rapper's abduction. (Ladies of The View take note, Carson proves that you can have a polite conversation with someone even if you disagree with their way of life. (p.s. I really hate Star Jones.)]

Well, that was two years ago. Now the name Carson Daly once again invokes painful images of him trying to be funny and failing miserably, (He's still sucking dry that joke he made at Jennifer Love's expense at his MTV roast ... A YEAR AGO) trying to be cute and just looking bloated. Trying to be flirtatious and making me want to take a restraining order out against my TV.

Seriously he actually used to be funny. I'm serious. I know most people hate Carson for his smug ass, look at me I'm so great teenage girls think I'm a god kinda thing, but when his show first premiered he was funny. Really, really cool. Now he's all sorts of desperate. Like a hooker the day before the rent is due.

Carson does what few hosts can do and he does it well ... make his guest feel at home. He meets them on their level and conducts a great interview without having to resort to tacky 'host' tricks. (paging Jimmy Kimmel) Well he did, but now he just makes them smile painfully at him as he tries to hard to remain hip and fun. You can so tell that half the time they're wondering if being on his show is 'in' anymore. Most of them look like they miss the good old classy days of screaming twits on TRL.

All in all Carson Daly brings to late night, something sorely missing from his former afternoon gig ... His Brain. It's good to know that Daly isn't as one dimensional as TRL and that he can actually have a conversation with grown ups. Unfortunately his brain has now addled. This is your brain on over processed, boring, turning creepy, late night entertainment.

Here's where I insulted Jimmy Kimmel, but now Jimmy's so much funnier than Carson that what I wrote is just not true anymore. Well the bit about Rory Culkin is, but otherwise Jimmy's grown up and his show with him. Carson's show is dying a slow agonizing death.

Long live the once prolific NBC Smart Ass Kings. Well 'Chandler Bing' lives on, and will live on forever in syndication ... and Conan still rules and his string dance is just priceless. But Carson ... sorry dude ... you're just ... you're just bad. And you're getting old. That whole 'aren't I hip?' thing isn't working. It's becoming more like 'ouch I broke my hip' and that's just sad.

April 08 1:58am - [Ok my respect for Carson has risen dramatically after hearing him talk about how much he hates Clay Aiken. I think I love him now. Might wanna bear his children ... ok that's going to far, but he's good in my eyes now. He just has to get the show going good again.]
