On behalf of Billy Crudup, I'd like to say a big 'Fuck you' to society and the world at large.

Ah don't get all twisted by my swearing ... you people out there are the really offensive ones with your judging and your moralizing and finger pointing.

Every one of you who have judged him for leaving his pregnant girlfriend for another woman, when you know nothing about their lives or relationship.

Why should he should he stay with her just because she's pregnant?  Why is he talked about like he's some villain because he chose not to?  Why is anyone a villain if they leave an invalid spouse or significant other?

Seriously what are you all trying to say?  That people should sacrifice their lives and potential happiness for pity?  Are you supposed to spend the rest of your life, living a life you hate because of guilt?

Fuck you.  No one deserves to be in a relationship like that.  This is reality ... there are no Ethan Winthrops here.  Staying in a relationship, that's being sustained by pity and guilt, is the most demoralizing thing that anyone can do.

You're not doing anyone any favors and the truth is you're hurting the person you pity.  Because I can damn well assure you that no one wants to be pitied.

Billy Crudup left his seven months pregnant girlfriend Mary-Louise Parker for Claire Danes and the world has no idea why, but yet they're all condemning him.

And you know what?  It doesn't even matter why he left, because you're all full of shit.  Pregnant or not, if it's not working out, you leave.  And certainly if he's fallen for someone else, that's even more reason to get the hell out.

I mean, would you all have preferred for him to wait until AFTER the child was born?  So you could all say that he abandoned his newborn?

Seriously ... what other option did he have?  To stay and cheat on the side?  Now that would make him a bastard.

I mean damn, you just can't please society.  You always want your pound of flesh and you don't care how you get it.  You want everyone to live the way you live, because heaven forbid anyone go against the norm and actually try living for themselves.

See this is exactly why I despise society and the way it seeks to control individual behavior.  I'm sorry people, but this is not George Orwell's 1984.  Individuality rules.  People get to chose and act however they want to.  If you don't like it ... fuck off.

Tell me, what is your problem with individuality?  Can't bare to see people not living their lives according to your rules?  Or maybe it's that you just can't bare to see people with the courage enough, to go against the norm and just live their lives to suit themselves, because you're too cowardly to do the same?

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Billy leaving his pregnant girlfriend is some wonderful advertisement for individuality.  All I'm saying is that he has the right to do it.  He has the right not to feel guilty and stay with his pregnant girlfriend, just because society would prefer that he did.

See it's the little things like that, the things that seem to be just someone else's business, but that society looks down on and condemns ... those are the little things that day by day chip away at individuality.

And it's not like we individuals had that much power in the first place.  The world is society driven, it's not about what the woman on the corner thinks or what the creepy guy upstairs has to say.  It's about mass consensus.

Religion.  Politics.  Money.  Those are the things that control the world, and those are the elements that control society, and bizarrely enough, that society controls.  And ultimately society seeks to control individual behavior.

They want little soldiers who will fall in line and act the way society dictates.  Speak the way society dictates.  Live the way society dictates.  And any deviation from the norm ... god help you.  As long as it's a society approved god that is.

The funny thing is that books like 1984, or The Crysalids are heralded as classics and taught in schools as dire warnings, about what happens when society or the government become too powerful and seek to eclipse or control individuality.  And yet we seem to learn nothing from them.  How can we act like these books and the lessons they attempt to teach are so valuable, yet still live society driven lives?

Then again, I guess it's a complete contradiction either way, because in order for individual actions to be accepted, society has to do the accepting.  Society has to say "All right ... we cherish individuality.  We're all for people doing their own thing and living their lives the way they want."

If that doesn't happen, there will always have those people like myself and others who live on the fringes, not accepted, who don't want to be accepted or simply would never be accepted, even if they tried to be like the rest of society.  Even if they tried to be normal.

And what is normal anyway?  I dare any one of you reading, to email me and tell me what normal is.  That word is a fucking contradiction.  Another weapon of society's made to keep people in line.

Society decides what's normal in society.  Normal only works as an absolute in scientific terms.  Body temperature, weather, physical attributes ... although even this one is changing thanks to the blending of so many races and ethnicity's.  Those things have norms.  Society does not.

What society has, is an opinion of what society would like to be.  That's their version of normal.  And it's not even something they can claim exists, because it doesn't.  It's just a fantasy.  A hope, a dream, that will ultimately, shut out completely any hope for individuality.

Society sucks!
