I'm addicted to ...

Television
... yes I know I already said that but allow me elaborate, so you all can fully understand and appreciate ... or perhaps shudder in horror ... at the full extent of my unhealthy love for this gift from God.

When I was 11, I was known at my school for being the human TV Guide.  Ask me any question about what would be on television that week and I could tell you perfectly.  I had the entire television schedule for any given week completely memorized.  Weird yes?

Not to me.  It was just something I always knew.  I certainly didn't spend my evenings memorizing the weekly television schedule.  I was just always aware of what was going to be on TV.

I simply had a knack for finding and remembering bits and pieces of information, regardless of it's relevance to my life or anything else.  Like right now I can tell you that ... 'ecology is a branch of biology that deals with the interaction between living organisms and their environment.' I learned that when I was 8, after taking an interest in my older cousin Wayne's biology book.

Why do I remember that?  No idea.  But that's just an example of how I just know and remember stuff.

A shrink would ask ... "Did you latch onto television due to your lack of a mother figure?"  Perhaps ... but I'm not that anal.  I just like TV ... A LOT!

I watched pretty much everything that came on television ... with the exception of the news.  That was always far too boring for my tastes.  I watch it now, because I've since realized, that there's no better reality television than the news.  No prize to win, no fame to be gotten, just stupid real people doing really stupid things.  What more can a reality show fan ask for?

Sesame Street, as you know, was of course a staple in my television diet.  My first TV obsession.  Animaniacs oh my God ... Pinky and the Brain, Thunder Cats, Galaxy Rangers, Knight Rider ... You name it ... I probably watched it.  And of course my first introduction to the glory that is the daytime soap opera.  Days of Our Lives.

God I love television.  Every show helped to fuel my addiction.

Friends.  Oh my God I loved this show.  I've seen every episode at least three times each and I can answer any question anyone may have about the show.  Chandler's middle name?  Muriel.  Phoebe once bit a massage client on the ass.  Ross once had a Princess Leia fantasy with his mother in the lead role.  Monica broke the dog when she was a fat little girl by trying to ride it and Ross spread a nasty rumor that Rachel had a penis when they were in high school.

So yes, before you ask, I cried like a baby when it ended.  But I still get my daily fix of Friends, six days a week, since it airs twice on the WB here in NY at 7pm and 11pm, Monday to Friday and on Sundays at 11pm.

But while I loved Friends ... I don't think there's ever been a show that captured my heart and soul like Roswell did.  I was so obsessed with this show that I made a website,  wrote fan fics, took over the WB's message board when it switched to UPN, became obsessed with the lead actress Shiri Appleby and grew to hate for no reason other than she was Shiri's fictional enemy ... Emilie De Ravin.  Fortunately my love for J.J. Abrams has since then helped me to absolve my issues with Emilie and now I love her as Claire on Lost.
